Making Cities Resilient:
My City is Getting Ready
Open Data Infrastructure for City Resilience

A road-map, showcase and guide that features over 25 examples of cities from around the world that are innovating with open data to manage their disaster risk and build their resilience

The Open Data Infrastructure for City Resilience is a roadmap, showcase and guide that features over 25 examples of cities from around the world that are innovating with open data to manage their disaster risk and build their resilience. Produced in collaboration with the Making Cities Resilient Campaign, it has been developed to help cities :

- prioritise investment in their data infrastructure to make progress against the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and the Global Goal for Adaptation under the Paris Agreement;

- prioritise open data within wider data strategies for resilient sustainable urban development ;

- receive practical guidance/ inspiration on developing their infrastructure and innovation ecosystem through use cases framed by the 10 Essentials for Making Cities Resilient Framework ;

- have better knowledge of how to use effective public engagement and risk communication in conjunction with open data modelling, analytics and open data driven applications.

Open Data Infrastructure for City Resilience consists of three key sections :
1. A ROADMAP to assist city authorities in the creation of an information and data framework for the 10 Essentials with practical guidance on key steps for strategy development and implementation. Two key assessment tools for understanding the level of data maturity (capacity) of a city are presented, alongside a set of tried and tested approaches to advancing the Roadmap.

2. A SHOWCASE of real world cases illustrating the innovative use of open or mixed uses of data linked to each of the 10 Essentials and the Disaster Resilience Scorecard for Cities. In recognition of the highly divergent levels of data capacity of the cities in the Making Cities Resilient Campaign, the guide includes use cases from a range of developed and developing country cities.

3. A GUIDE that makes the resilience case for developing local open data infrastructure. It covers cross-cutting issues such as how to develop crowdsourced mapping, data standards, open innovation and risk communication.

Open Data Infrastructure for Resilience was led by Resurgence in coordination with the Making Cities Resilient Campaign and a global alliance of partners committed to mobilizing open data for urban resilience : Resilience Brokers, OpenNorth, GeoSUMR and Esri.
