Luz Maria has a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Urban Planning and Urbanism and Master’s degree in International Construction Management. Currently Luz Maria works as Executive Director at the Centre for Research and Action for Urban Development “Estrategia” where she manages various projects related to urban upgrading, land and property rights as well as women empowerment and local development.
In 2001, Luz Maria was awarded the Lewis Mumford Award by Architects, Designers and Planners for Social Responsibility (ADPSR) for the programs Estrategia implemented in the city of Lima. Luz was an active member of the UN Advisory Group on Forced Evictions and currently she is a member of the Huairou Commission. In addition, Luz is a partner of Geo Hazards International, located in the San Francisco, USA, and she was nominated as Co-Chair of Arc Peace International, Stockholm, Sweden, from 2014 to 20016. Since October 2013 Luz is the advocate of the UNDRR Making Cities Resilient Campaign, representing Peru. Furthermore, in 2015 she was nominated by the UN-Habitat to be land and housing issues referent at the World Urban Forum (Habitat III), in Quito, Ecuador.

The Local Government of Rimac was nominated by the ISDR as Municipality of the month.
The Mayor of the Rimac district participated at the World Conference of UNDRR in Sendai, Japan representing countries from Latin America.
The Municipality of Lamas Province in the jungle of Peru organized an event together with the Educative Management to increase preparedness of schools to disaster events.
