Launch
of the 2006-2007 Disaster Risk Reduction
Begins at School Campaign
|
|
The
UN/ISDR and its partners launched the 2006-2007 Disaster
Risk Reduction Begins at School Campaign in
Paris on June 15, 2006 during the International
Symposium on “Progress
and proposals regarding education for sustainable
development,” organized by the French
Government, under the auspices of UNESCO, the
Council of Europe and the Francophone International
Organization (OIF).
UN/ISDR Director, Mr. Sálvano Briceño
and UNESCO’s Director General, Mr. Köichiro
Matsuura lead the Campaign launch that gathered
over 300 participants and media representatives.
The event was moderated by Ms. Sabine Quindou,
presenter of the France’s TV3 science
programme “C’est pas sorcier,” and
children from
France, Iran, Japan and the United Kingdom
exchanged their personal experiences of how
they learned
to
protect themselves in the event of a
natural hazard. |
