Understanding how to measure progress in disaster risk reduction.
 

Develop a common understanding for measuring progress in disaster risk reduction, and the setting and use of indicators, goals, expected results, benchmarks, and other tools for measurement.

Discuss the various types of methodological approaches for developing indicators (qualitative/quantitative, phased achievements, absolute/relative progress over time). Consider practical application.

3 October:
Topic 2
Implementation and application of indicators.
  How to gather and document relevant information consistently over time. Who is responsible? Who will determine appropriate levels of progress, and how will progress be measured? What factors inhibit and support data collection and a generally systematic and purposeful use of indicators?

4 – 10 October: Topic 3
Conclusion and Summary.
 

Moving ahead and developing procedures for reviewing national progress. Suggestions for how to develop schedules and procedures for reviewing national progress towards the development and application of indicators, including benefits of the different actions.
Examples.

 

At the end of each topic the moderators will provide a summary report and will introduce the next topic.
