‘Daraja’, meaning ‘bridge’ in Swahili, brings together the residents of informal settlements, national meteorological forecasters, the UK Met Office, Nairobi and Dar es Salaam city authorities and the Red Cross, with the aim of diagnosing where blockages in information flows occur in the two cities. The approach provides trusted feedback loops that facilitate hazard awareness in informal settlements.
