From crop production projections to monitoring volcanic eruptions, earth observations impact how we assess risk and how we reduce impacts from disasters. As an intergovernmental partnership, the Group on Earth Observations works with 105 national governments and over 120 NGO’s and international organisations to increase the use of open and accessible earth observation data to reduce risk. This Ignite session will inform the audience about how and why Earth observations are used to reduce disaster risk. Earth observation is the gathering of information about physical, chemical and biological systems in, on, and around the Earth.
