The disappearance of traditional land use that involves intensive utilization of vegetation has resulted in increasing the flammability of natural, cultural and peri-urban / industrial landscapes. This presentation suggests we revert to sustainable land-use practices, revitalize abandoned landscapes and their potential to serve as a sustainable source for the production of food and renewable energy and ‘green jobs’ as key elements of a ‘Green Economy’. Intensively managed cultural and natural landscapes would provide ‘Green Infrastructure’, reduce wildfire threat and post-wildfire secondary disasters.
