Technical and analytical support for review of Asia Regional Plan for Implementation of the Sendai Framework and development of Action Plan 2020-2022.

Expected duration

Duties and responsibilities

1. Technical support to DRR knowledge products:

  • Researches, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources; reviews relevant documents and reports; liaises with relevant parties; identifies and tracks follow-up actions.
  • Prepares various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.
  • Reviews and edits draft DRR reports and knowledge products.

2. Substantive review of the Action Plan 2018-2020:

  • Support a desk-based analytical assessment of the Asia Regional Plan for the Implementation of the Sendai Framework. 
  • Conduct consultations with select Member States, Intergovernmental Organisations and relevant stakeholders.
  • Draft the APMCDRR report and perform any other substantive task in relation to the APMCDRR.

3. Policy research and analysis 

  • Drafts specified inputs for technical papers and analytical studies on selected global, regional, national or sector aspects of disaster risk reduction.
  • Undertakes survey initiatives; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues and prepares conclusions.
  • Develops draft policy recommendations on disaster risk reduction and resilience and risk-informed development strategies.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic qualifications: 

Advanced university degree in economics, geography or other social sciences, communications, disaster risk management, development studies, public policy or related fields is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience: 

Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience with progressive professional responsibility in areas related to disaster risk reduction is required. Experience in drafting and documentation is desirable.

Language:

Fluency in English is required.
