The World has witnessed some of the worst disasters recently which in turn have forced us to rethink about our preparedness and management measures. Increasing trend of conflict between human activity and the ecosystem is becoming alarming to global environment causing climatic change leading to increased natural and man made hazards. This has raised challenging issues for disaster management strategies. The technological intervention has provided solution to these challenges. In recent years, efforts in disaster management have gained impetus from the unprecedented development in information, communication and technologies, which have wide-ranging applications in disaster preparedness, reduction, management. We are faced with numerous interconnected, complex and newly emerging risks. Environmental, technical, social and economic risks are often closely linked and can result in successive cascade impact. For example the recent earthquake in japan resulted in huge tsunami, and created nuclear meltdown at Fukishima.
