The purpose of this meeting will be to explore effective strategies for interaction between scientists and stakeholders pursuing climate change adaptation in mountain and coastal communities in North America and Europe.
This summertime Aspen meeting follows on from a successful initial meeting of the same focus held this past April at the Climate Service Center (CSC) in Hamburg, Germany. The Hamburg meeting hosted more than 30 elected officials, planners, and other stakeholders from mountain and coastal communities as well as internationally renowned scientists from a wide range of disciplines. Throughout the course of the meeting, participants explored effective examples of climate change adaptation at community levels, pathways for societal transformation, barriers to adaptation planning, scientific capacity and needs, and tools for decision support.
The purpose of this upcoming Aspen meeting will be to continue dialogue on these topics and work towards a synthesis product that can be distributed more widely to both stakeholder and scientific audiences in other communities.
