27th annual governor's hurricane conference

Training Course
Governor's Hurricane Conference (GHC)
05-10 May 2013
United States of America
Greater Ft. Lauderdale, Broward County Convention Center

Last year’s Governor’s Hurricane Conference® provided insight into the past with a focus on the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Andrew. The conference also examined the history of emergency management in Florida, as well as the technological advances and societal changes over the past quarter century. This year’s 27th Annual Governor’s Hurricane Conference® will add the lessons learned from the storms of 2012, Debby, Isaac, and Sandy, to their compendium of shared experiences and expertise. Each of these storms presented unique challenges that forced emergency managers and other stakeholders to respond unlike they had in the past. For example, with the sheer size of Sandy, the glancing blows of Isaac and Sandy, the concentrated flooding of Isaac and Debby and the recovery challenges of events that did not result in a Presidential disaster declaration, Florida’s emergency management system was repeatedly tested and Florida’s emergency response community stepped up to meet the challenges both at home and by helping other regions serve their citizens in time of need.
