This meeting will be held from 20 to 22 February 2012 in Bangkok, as a follow-up activity to the Expert Group Meeting on Geo-reference Disaster Risk Management System in Asia-Pacific Region held from 15 to 17 February 2012 in Bangkok , and also an activity of the project entitled “ Improving Disaster Risk Preparedness in the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Region ” which ESCAP is currently implementing . This project has the overall goal of strengthening government capacities in the implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA) through the use of geo-referenced information tools for effective disaster risk preparedness, and timely early recovery efforts in the Asia-Pacific region with focus on countries with special needs (CSN).
The workshop will discuss the importance of standardized geo-referenced information, and necessity of having a strong institutional mechanism and coordination for data or information sharing among the relevant national agencies, and networking and community of practices for an effective disaster risk management among others.
What is included in the event fee
Participants whose travel is sponsored by ESCAP will be provided with a daily subsistence allowance at prevailing United Nations rates in local currency. In order to facilitate the payment of subsistence allowance, eligible participants are requested to submit copies of the passport, boarding pass, arrival/departure form together with their air tickets to the secretariat staff in the conference room.

Target audienceThe workshop is expected to be attended by about 30 international and local participants (high level government decision/policy makers and international/regional/sub-regional and inter-governmental organizations ) in the region, particularly from South-east and East Asia, and the Pacific.
How to registerParticipants are requested to register and obtain meeting badges at the registration counter, located on the ground floor, UNCC, one hour before the opening of the meeting. Participants who are not able to register during the time indicated above are requested to do so upon their arrival at UNCC before going to the conference room. Only the names of duly registered participants will be included in the list of participants.
For identification and security reasons, all participants are requested to wear their meeting badges at all times during meetings, social functions in the United Nations complex. The loss of a meeting badge should be contacted at the registration counter, so that a new one can be issued immediately.
