Young OR is a highly popular conference for academics and practitioners within the first ten years of their careers in Operational Research (OR). It provides an excellent opportunity to learn about how O.R. and analytics are used in a wide range of applications. The conference programme will include plenaries, keynotes, workshops and parallel stream, as well as a full social programme, where participants will have the opportunity to meet and network with fellow academics and practitioners working in different sectors and areas of O.R.. One key feature that makes the Young OR conference unique is that it provides participants a friendly and supportive environment to present to peers, hence facilitating the sharing of best practice.
One of the streams of the conference is related to disaster management. The number and the impact of disasters in recent years all around the world are compelling arguments for the development of suitable solutions to improve disaster management, and Operations Research is a very fruitful application of advanced analytical methods to provide suitable and useful tools and decision support systems to do it.
The purpose of this stream is to gather academics and practitioners alike to share ideas, projects and experiences using OR techniques for disaster management. The stream will give a chance for speakers to disseminate their work and create further connections with people working on the same research, through interaction with an audience in a suitable environment to get feedback and different perspectives.
This exciting new stream of research is still growing and this forum is a chance to share your research and/or your experience on this subject. That is the reason we are delighted to call for papers from researchers and managers related to the use of operations research for disaster management. Papers regarding new projects, past experiences, current practices, case studies, among others are welcome.
