Education: Mining Engineer - specialization in Geology and Geophysics and a Master Degree in Geological and Environmental Engineer from Polytechnic University of Madrid, Spain.
Experience: more than 20 years in civil jobs, mainly on geotechnics, solving problems of landslides, rock falls, debris flow and other coming from natural and man-induced hazards. Having worked at the beginning (early 90’s and before) in two engineering companies, two R&D institutions (one private and one public, the Geological Survay of Spain), and afterwards for 10 years (3 first as Technical Manager and 7 as Managing Director) in Tesinsa, private company specialized in geotechnical jobs providing solutions for unstable lands. After it, and previously to act as consultant, was General Manager of Geobrugg Ibérica, S.A., the Iberian branch of Geobrugg A.G., worldwide leader on flexible systems to protect from different natural hazards. Since 2010, acting internationally as freelance consultant on natural resources management, natural hazards, disaster risk reduction strategies, and other fields of environmental risk assessment or reduction.
Campaign ActivitiesAttendance to different international conferences on DRR, including Global Platforms for DRR in Geneva 2011 and 2013 (in last one assisting some country delegates) and Global Risk Forum IDRC 2012 and Business Continuity Conference.
Member of the Urban Planning and Resilience Working Group, in the preparatory process of Sendai WCDRR, having done different contributions and attended to several meetings in Barcelona, Geneva and London.
Together with Mr. Marc Stal from GRF Davos, lecturer on the First Making Cities Resilient Campaign Training Course held in Mashhad (I.R. of Iran), in October 2012. Totally around 130 participants attended, including 40 Mayors of the Iranian province of Khorasan Razavi and 90 technicians and administrative staff of the Municipality of Mashhad. At the end, the 40 cities signed up the Campaign. The course was included in the “Iran Disaster Week”. We were invited to some other events and I officially represented UNDRR on behalf of Ms. Helena Molin Valdés in a plenary meeting of the Council of Mashhad Municipality reading a letter and briefly explaining the essentials of the Campaign. The Farsi version of the MCR Campaign Handbook was officially presented in the course of these events.

A paper addressed (co-signed with Ms. Helena Moin Valdés) and presentation of the Global Framework on DRR and the MCR Campaign in the “VIII National Simposium on Unstable Slopes”, held in June 2013 in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
Mainstreaming the UNDRR concepts in different particular projects of civil jobs.
Currently maintaining meetings with different stakeholders of the Infrastructures private sector from Spain (construction and engineering companies, professional associations, and some PPP’s), who act globally and are leading many different activities, projects and jobs, trying to create or increase their awareness on DRR and involve them in the concepts and proposals from MCR Campaign.
In course discussions with colleagues evaluating possibilities of different cities in Spain to join the MCR campaign. In May 2015 celebrated a meeting with Mr. Sebastian Martin (also MCR Advocate) and other colleagues in the University of La Laguna (Canary Islands) discussing future possible collaborations to spread the MCR campaign and the new Sendai Framework
