The use of Space-based technology applications is an essential element in national and local disaster risk reduction strategies. Many successful applications exist; further capabilities are high meeting the known demands. The Global Partnership using Space-based technology applications for disaster risk reduction (GP-STAR) is the voluntary multi-stakeholder partnership to foster the use of Space-based Technologies and Applications and Earth observation in the context of the Sendai Framework. It will support the implementation of the Sendai Framework through, for example, providing advice and conceptual guidance to governments, organizations, and projects, and the provision of relevant publications and discussion fora. Practical examples will be shown and the way forward for an enhanced use in DRR at national level will be discussed.
