Disaster risk reduction on the agenda of 124th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly
As part of the 124th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, held from 15 to 20 of April in Panama City, a meeting was organized with parliamentarians on the importance of disaster risk reduction (DRR) and building sustainable development.
The panel was moderated by Maureen Ballestero Vargas, former Vice-President of the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica; and the panel was composed by Saber Chowdhury, Member of Parliament of Bangladesh, Tioulong Saumura, Member of Parliament of Cambodia and Ricardo Mena, head of the Regional Office of UNISDR Americas. The meeting was attended by over twenty parliamentarians from Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas.
The debate allowed participants to report on the results of recent international consultations on DRR, both between parliamentarians and within the United Nations and discussed expectations for the Third Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, 8-13 May 2011, that will focus on investing today for a safer tomorrow.

La Unión Interparlamentaria y la UNISDR organizan reunión con parlamentarios sobre RRD.
En el marco de la 124 asamblea de la Unión Interparlamentaria celebrada de 15 al 20 de abril en Ciudad de Panamá, se llevo a cabo una reunión con parlamentarios sobre la importancia de la RRD y la construcción del desarrollo sostenible.
El panel estuvo moderado por Maureen Ballestero Vargas, Ex Vicepresidenta de la Asamblea Legislativa de Costa Rica y el panel por Saber Chowdhury, Miembro del Parlamento de Bangladesh, Tioulong Saumura, Miembro del Parlamento de Camboya y Ricardo Mena, Jefe de la Oficina Regional para las Américas de la UNISDR. La reunión contó con la asistencia de más de veinte parlamentarios de Asia, África, Europa y las Américas.
La reunión permitió informar a los participantes, sobre los resultados de las recientes consultas internacionales sobre RRD, tanto entre parlamentarios como dentro de las Naciones Unidas, y se discutieron las expectativas para la próxima Plataforma Mundial (Third Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, 8-13 May 2011) que se centrará en invertir por un mañana más seguro.
