This edition covers: (i) the highlights from the 2012 International Day for Disaster Reduction; (ii) the first-ever country peer review of the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA) by the United Kingdom; (iii) the recognition of Sendai as a role model; and (iv) the adoption of Yogyakarta Declaration from the Fifth Asian Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction. It also announces: (v) the review of the National Platforms for Disaster Risk Reduction; (vi) the nomination of Sunčana Jokić, a Croatian educator, as the country's first "Champion of Change"; (vii) the distinction of Prime Minister of Thailand, H.E. Yingluck Shinawatra, as a leading woman figure in disaster management. Finally, it (viii) features the President of the Republic of Indonesia's statement at the Fifth Asian Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction, as well as (ix) the winners of UNISDR's Asian Film Festival on disaster risk reduction.
The Fourth Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction will take place in Geneva, Switzerland in May 2013.
