Disaster Risk Management for Health Fact Sheets:
This fact sheet about water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and disaster risk management for health is divided into four sections: i) Key points ii) Why is this important? iii) What are the health risks? iv) Risk management consideration.
WASH key points: WASH saves lives in both routine and emergency situations; WASH is a priority action in the response to emergencies; the main objective of WASH programmes in disasters is to reduce faeco-oral transmission of disease; providing WASH services helps people return to their normal daily activities after a disaster.
The Fourth Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction will take place in Geneva, Switzerland in May 2013.
