This fact sheet about radiation emergencies in disaster risk reduction for health is divided into four sections: i) Key points ii) Why is this important? iii) What are the health risks? iv) Risk management considerations.
Radiation emergencies key points: radiation emergencies are a health risk to those directly affected; the people can be exposed to a radiation source with or without necessarily becoming contaminated with radioactive materials; effective risk communication is essential to both the public and emergency responders.
The Fourth Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction will take place in Geneva, Switzerland in May 2013.
