ISDR secretariat biennial workplan: 2008-2009 final report

This annual report of the 2008-2009 biennium highlights how the UNISDR secretariat has teamed up with a wide range of partners to deliver on a challenging work programme, including the first Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction, the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction and the World Disaster Reduction Campaign. It begins with key messages, provides a financial summary and thereafter reviews developments and impact of outcomes in relation to the secretariat's four strategic objectives.

The report assesses how UNISDR met the four objectives of its Biennium Work Plan 2008-2009: (i) ISDR system coordination and resource mobilization to ensure and enhance coordination and coherent action among ISDR system partners to support the HFA implementation; (ii) advocacy and partnership building to achieve greater recognition of and commitment to disaster risk reduction and the HFA among policy and decision makers world-wide, guided by technically sound policies and practices; (iii) strategic information and policy guidance to ensure that information and knowledge on risk, progress and guidance to implement the HFA are available at national, regional and global levels; and (iv) strengthened ISDR secretariat to effectively support the ISDR system and facilitate the implementation of the HFA.
