Organizer(s) United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction
Venue

Room XVIII in the Palais des Nations

Date

Introduction:

In its resolution 69/284 of 3 June 2015, the General Assembly established an open-ended intergovernmental expert working group (OIEWG) on indicators and terminology relating to disaster risk reduction to develop indicators to measure global progress on the seven agreed targets of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030. The Working Group would also consider an update of disaster risk reduction terminology. On 9 February 2016, the Chair of the OIEWG will preside over an informal meeting (seminar) of the Working Group prior to its second formal session, scheduled for 10-11 February 2016.

Purpose of informal meeting (seminar):

The purpose of the informal meeting is to facilitate a common understanding among the members of the Working Group on the issues outlined in the technical papers on indicators produced by the Secretariat in preparation for the second session. A series of explanatory informational briefings will be provided by the Secretariat on each of the technical papers. Each briefing will be followed by interactive discussions with the experts to allow for questions, clarifications and comments on the substance of the papers.

Participation:

Participation is also open to all nominated experts from government, the United Nations system and other stakeholders (civil society organizations, private sector, local government, academic and scientific institutions) who have successfully registered to participate in the proceedings of the Working Group. Register online.
