Oxfam Water for Survival is hosting a public seminar on preparedness and responses to natural disasters. In the immediate aftermath of a disaster, clean drinking water is critical, but having access to water and other necessities can be a challenge, particularly in developing countries. Garry MacDonald, former President of IPENZ, will speak about how countries can prepare for natural disasters to reduce the economic and social impacts faced by communities. Carlos Calderon, the Pacific Humanitarian Manager for Oxfam NZ, will then recount his personal experience of Oxfam’s humanitarian work in response to Cyclone Evan in Samoa in 2012.
