The State of Kerala is witnessing a noticeable increase in the disastrous consequences of both anthropogenic and naturally triggered hazards. As pioneers in many developmental initiatives, it is only befitting that Kerala hosts an International forum for deliberations on Disaster Risk Reduction.
The ultimate aim of the workshop is to derive a suggestive framework for mainstreaming and institutionalizing disaster risk reduction practices through systematic, scientific and continuous contingency planning which could be a role model in the country for comprehensive disaster risk reduction policy formulation, governance strategy formulation, planning and implementation supported by scientific inputs.
Objectives of the workshop
1. To solicit and foster collaboration between national and international governance and policy experts for deriving a pragmatic frame work for disaster risk reduction policy formulation and governance strategy planning
2. To facilitate lively interactions and opportunities for networking between national and international disaster risk reduction practitioners, scientists, governance professionals and risk communicators for disaster risk management planning and implementation of mitigation measures
3. To foster sharing of knowledge on best practices from across the country and elsewhere in the world related to community based disaster risk reduction
4. To facilitate relevant stakeholders with an opportunity to interact and network with the best available international experts on the science of disaster risk reduction
Exhibition objectives
The objective of the exhibition is to reach out to all sections of the community, to educate them on the need for disaster risk reduction and to impress upon them the need for a change in mindset which will equip them better to deal with disasters.
