Our Activities

Home to the UN Headquarters

New York, home to the UN Headquarters, is at the centre of high-level debate, inter-governmental negotiations, and global development and humanitarian discourse.

Amid this environment, our office’s activities entail engaging with a variety of actors, organizations and groups to advance and promote disaster risk reduction.

Our office plays a key role in supporting the development of policies and decisions related to disaster risk reduction, including the mainstreaming of DRR in the development agenda within the United Nations system and with other international organizations and institutions located in New York.

We also organize and/or support the organization of thematic debates, negotiations and policy discussions taking place at committees of the UN General Assembly and in other UN agencies.

Our activities range from monitoring key processes and contributing to meetings within the UN system to liaising with representatives of Member States of the UN and specialized agencies in New York.

We work with Member States to advance the disaster risk reduction agenda in their respective endeavours and routinely provide thematic support, advice and technical guidance to them. One of our current areas of focus is contributing to various work streams of deliberations on the post-2015 development agenda.

In addition to providing policy and technical guidance to various actors, we also collaborate with our partners to create a more active information exchange on disaster risk reduction. This translates into a range of outputs such as technical write-ups, thematic debates, specialized briefings, and other advocacy events. See our New York based events to learn more.
