Library
Objectives:
to develop, maintain and make available its collection
of shared knowledge on disaster risk reduction in order to stimulate
a culture of disaster prevention.
The collection:
The library comprises more than 10,000 items including
books, reports, articles, monographs, serials on the various aspects
of disaster risk reduction. Newsletters,
CDROMs, videos, and DVDs are also available.
Services:
- research,
analysis and reference services
- help users on how to use the ISDR online catalog, and provide the
requested documents to be consulted in the reading room
- search the Official Document System (ODS)
- photocopy service: the ISDR library is not a lending library. However,
material can be copied and/or put on CDROM
- prepare information kit on CDROMs
- help developing disaster reduction libraries worldwide
Functions:
- support
the information needs of the users

serve as focal point library on disaster reduction the ISDR secretariat
staff, specialized agencies, IGOs, NGOs, government’s
representatives in Geneva and external researchers and experts.
- identify and collect information produced by UN partners, national
and international academic, technical and scientific institutions,
and other actors dealing with disaster reduction and related
issues worldwide.
- catalog items. The bibliographic records are immediately replicated
in the online catalog.
- respond to request for information on disaster risk reduction and/or
direct customers to the right source
- develop partnership with UN and other partners, as well as with
publishers
Products:
- develop virtual libraries with full text documents
- compile UN official documents on disaster reduction and related
issues available on hard copy, and CDROM.

publish “ISDR-Biblio”, a bibliography on a specific
subject
Online catalog:
Users can browse the online catalog which provides access to bibliographic
information of the collection. Documents selected can be
consulted in the reading room.
