The public and private sectors have a shared interest in meeting the challenges of reducing disaster risk. While the Sendai Framework called for inclusive, whole-of-society approaches to disaster risk management, deeper public-private collaboration is required to yield benefits for governments, businesses and communities alike. The business sector has extensive knowledge, ideas and resources that can accelerate efforts to strengthen community resilience. Governments need to harness and support these capabilities. This side-event will highlight models of effective private-public sector collaboration in reducing disaster risk and building community resilience.
