Making cities resilient is about building an ever-widening network of alliances for disaster risk reduction. Each campaign partner promotes urban disaster resilience in their areas of influence. By drawing on each other's expertise, partners lend substance to the policy-making and technical dimensions of the campaign, lending rigor to our advocacy.
Partners will support the campaign within the bounds of their organization, by designating a campaign focal point, circulating information to their members, linking to the campaign website, supporting specific activities outlined in the campaign strategy and linking up directly with local governments.
Along with participating and role model cities, advocates and champions, Campaign Partners promote the objectives and principles of the campaign in local, national, regional and global fora.
They will share relevant experiences, best practices, tools or resources and technical information related to all aspects of urban resilience through the campaign website, as well as relevant activities, trainings and workshops.
FEEDBACK FROM CITIES AND PARTNERS
According to many Campaign Partners, the added value of the Campaign lay in:
- Enabling partner organizations and cities to gain greater visibility for work already being done on disaster risk management and disaster risk reduction, and to help start new work;
- Having a framework in which dialogue can occur between stakeholders from different disciplines, such as to support disaster risk assessments;
- Having a ready-made platform for exchange at an international level;
- Providing a tool-kit for making cities resilient containing: the Handbook for Local Government Leaders, the Local Government Self-Assessment Tool (LG-SAT), City Resilient Score Card, a campaign website for sharing of tools and experiences, standard-setting papers and guidance notes for making cities resilient.
- Drawing media attention to disaster risk reduction, which in turn triggers greater accountability among local government authorities as well as stake-holders and citizens.
