In a signing ceremony held in Ancona on 14 December 2010, the cities of Ancona (Italy), Bullas( Spain) and Patras ( Greece) joined the campaign.
The three cities are partners of the Life+ project ACT (Adapting to Climate Change in Time) and signed up to the campaign on the occasion of the ACT 2010 conference ‘Adapting to Climate Change - strategies and experiences to increase cities’ resilience to climate change’.
The campaign launch was part of a conference that was attended by international researchers, public authorities, policy makers and businesses to exchange experiences and approaches to help cities and local governments of the Mediterranean basin to develop their strategies and solutions to climate change adaptation. The event wants also to establish a network of experts to support the project implementation and its future results dissemination.
The conference participants discussed three specific aspects related to adaptation to climate change:
- Resilience thinking for an innovative policy making at urban level;
- From development to implementation of an Urban/Local Adaptation Plan: methods and best practices;
- Assessing and evaluating the economic impacts of Climate Change at urban level: how to approach a cost-benefit analysis for implementing a local adaptation strategy.
