  • The Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF) Pacific has put together a program of events for the Symposium around the theme: Building Local Government Alliances: for Vibrant and Resilient Local Economies and Communities in the Pacific. The theme of the Symposium is 'Building local government alliances for vibrant and resilient local economies and communities in the Pacific'.

    The Symposium will be a chance for CLGF and its partners to address the role of local government in the region particularly with regard to key regional priorities such as urbanisation, economic development, leadership and governance, and managing the effects of climate change.

    International Day for Disaster Reduction - Port Vila, Vanuatu
    The event will commemorate the International Day for Disaster Reduction, as well as World Habitat Day, with the Pacific Launch of the 2010-2011 World Disaster Reduction Campaign, themed Making the Pacific Resilient: My Community is Getting Ready!

    In celebration of these events, UNISDR, UN-Habitat and UNESCAP are hosting technical working group sessions during the Pacific Local Government Symposium 2010 in Port Vila, Vanuatu.

    The sessions are:
    Building Urban Resilience to Disasters & Climate Change Wednesday 13 October 2010, 3-5pm, Warwick Le Lagoon Resort (includes celebration of International Day for Disaster Reduction and the launch of the 2010-2011 World Disaster Reduction Campaign in the Pacific, along with networking opportunities and case studies from Pacific local government leaders) - Facilitated by UNISDR and UN-Habitat.

    Managing Urbanisation Thursday 14 October 2010, 11am-12.30pm, Warwick Le Lagoon Resort - Facilitated by UN-Habitat and UNESCAP.

    Registration for these sessions is free and you are welcome to attend the individual sessions, the full day(s) or the entire Symposium (11-15 Oct).
