Balangoda Urban Council located in Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka.
Its 143 km
away from Colombo and 43 km away from Rathnapura. It is the one of biggest towns of
the Rathnapura District which is one of the two districts belonging to Sabaragamuwa
Province.
Technical Officer's of the Urban Council were trained on disaster resilient
housing designs. The guidelines developed by the NBRO were used in approving housing and building
constructions on areas prone to landslides.According to the recent circulr issued by the Ministry of Disaster Mangement,
planning committee for building construction seek prior recommendation certificate from the NBRO, if the
land is prone to landslides. This would reduced the landslide risk and threat in the citizens in the area.

Awareness programs were conducted with the assistance of Ministry of
Education and Provincial Ministry of Education. Especially in the areas of epidemics, Fire, road accidents etc
