Philippines Resilient Cities Award 2014
This Award recognizes Filipino communities that have excelled in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation through compliance with various related laws that include the Solid Waste Management Act, the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act and the Climate Change Act.
The award also recognizes communities that have successfully implemented land-use plans and made investments to reduce disaster risks and displayed excellence in the adoption and implementation of the Ten Essentials to make cities resilient.
The winner of the Award will receive international recognition as a Role Model City in Urban Resilience with a ceremony hosted by UNISDR and the Government of the Philippines.
The city will also receive a seedling bank from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), national and international media coverage, and will be featured in UNISDR publications as a champion for disaster risk reduction.

ELIGIBILITYApplicants should be a city administration or a local government.
Application procedureAll applicants must meet the following criteria:
- The applicant must sign up to the Making Cities Resilient Campaign and complete the Local Government Self Assessment Report.
- The applicant must provide a letter explaining why they should be selected for the Award.
- The applicant must provide two letters of endorsement from credible references, such as a government entity, academic or non-governmental organization, or professional institution.

Applications will be short-listed by an independent panel appointed by UNISDR, and the Government of the Philippines, and the winner will be selected by an independent national jury and by the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction, Ms. Margareta Wählstrom.

Organizers for the 2014 Philippines Resilient Cities Award are the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), Senator Loren Legarda, the UN Champion for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation for Asia- Pacific and Chair of the Philippines Senate Committee on Climate Change, and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
Senator Legarda announced the Award as part of the celebrations for the 2013 International Day for Disaster Reduction during the 2013 Philippines Resilience Forum.
