UNICEF MENARO is currently researching and developing a pilot mechanism for securing disaster risk reduction expertise for UNICEF projects and programmes. The UNICEF Pool of DRR Experts is designed to initially support UNICEF's DRR initiatives in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Should the pilot be successful, UNICEF hopes that such a pool of talent is of value to all DRR actors, not only in MENA but ultimately at the global scale.
The initial focus of the Pool of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Experts is to support future DRR activities within the education and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sectors, as well as for inter-sectoral strategies and policies. Members of the UNICEF Pool of DRR Experts will be eligible for consideration for multiple assignments of variable duration with UNICEF throughout the Middle East and North Africa.
Recruitment to the Pool of DRR Experts is open until 28 January 2011.
The Fourth Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction will take place in Geneva, Switzerland in May 2013.
