Second round of review for the HFA underway

Source(s): United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction

The second round of government-led progress review on the implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action is underway. More than fifty countries have already carried out the self-assessment. A number of regional bodies have also started to conduct an assessment of their progress in disaster risk reduction. The results of the country and regional assessments received before the end of 2010 will be presented in the 2011 Global Assessment Report.

UNISDR is beginning the final phase of preparations for the 2011 Global Assessment Report. The 2011 Report will feature four main sections covering risk updates, progress reporting and thematic analysis:

- Enhanced analysis of global risk patterns, trends and drivers, including an analysis of drought risk;
- A second round of progress reporting (2009- 2011) against the Hyogo Framework of Action from the countries and regions;
- Identification of investment priorities in managing and reducing disaster risk;
- Analysis of the enabling environment for disaster risk reduction.

A rigorous peer review process with three review phases will start in November and last until February. This process will ensure that all papers and analysis will benefit from a wide range of expert input. For more information on the review process and to suggest individuals for the expert review, please contact the GAR team at desaib@un.org.
