Towards a Post-2015 framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience

The consultation process for a Post-2015 framework was officially launched in March 2012 by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction and the Ambassador for Japan to the International Organizations in Geneva. UNISDR is involved in the consultations at all levels.

Rio+20 and Disaster Risk Reduction

Disaster Risk Reduction was an emerging issue for Rio+20 and was highlighted in the outcome document - The Future We Want. Goverments called for disaster risk reduction and the building of resilience to disasters to be addressed in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication.

International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR)

IDDR 2012 was a global event taking place from Afghanistan to Zambia. Over 80 countries celebrated the day with hundreds of activities around the theme "Women and Girls: the [in]Visible Force of Resilience", including an interactive crowd map developed to highlight examples of women and girls as a force for resilience and over 50 videos produced or submitted to the YouTube playlist.
