Recent meetings related to early warning in which PPEW or ISDR personnel have participated

PPEW and ISDR personnel actively participate in meetings and events of concern to early warning. Recent activities are listed below. Note also that the ISDR Secretariat operates a meeting calendar of all forthcoming events and meetings concerning disaster reduction.

Thirty-Seventh Session of the Typhoon Committee, 16-20 November, Shanghai, China. A presentation “Early warning and Disaster Risk Reduction” was made by Y Ono.
Technical Workshop on Drought Preparedness in the Balkans within the Context of UNCCD, 25-26 October 2004, Poiana Barasov, Romania. A presentation “Drought Resistance and Resilience: the Roles of Early Warning” was made by M Abchir.
UN Day exhibition in Bonn City, 22 October, 2004. As part of a UN Bonn Campus display, a PPEW stand was developed to display information materials and respond to questions from citizens of the host city. C Schaerpf, R Basher and Y Ono, participated.
Eighth Meeting of the UN System-Wide Earthwatch, 13-14 October, 2004. A presentation “Earthwatch and Disaster Reduction: the ISDR, WCDR and PPEW” was made by R Basher
InWEnt training course for diplomats, Bonn, 20 October 2004. A presentation “Disasters, development and early warning” was made by R Basher.
Second Preparatory Committee on the World Conference on Disaster Reduction (IATF), Geneva, 11-12 October, 2004. R Basher, Y Ono, and J Harding participated.
Tenth Session of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Disaster Reduction (IATF), Geneva, 7-8 October, 2004. Including the first meeting of the IATF Working group on Climate Change and Disaster Reduction, and a meeting of the Lead Agencies for WCDR Cluster 2 Thematic Sessions (risk and early warning). GEO Special Session on Governance, Brussels, 27-28 September. (Concerned with global earth observations.) R Basher participated.
Members Assembly of the German Disaster Reduction Committee (DKKV), Berlin, 6 September, 2004. A presentation “Platform for the Promotion of Early Warning: Priorities, Progress and Plans” was made by R Basher.
Fourth Annual IIASA-DPRI Forum, Integrated Disaster Risk Management: Challenges for Implementation, Ravello, Italy, 3-7 July, 2004. A presentation “Drought Resistance and Resilience: the Roles of Early Warning, Networking and the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction” was made by R Basher.
Meetings concerning adaptation to climate change, Bonn, Germany, 14-18 June, in association with meetings of the Subsidiary Bodies to the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC. This included interventions, a roundtable with development and humanitarian entities from the Government of Germany (BMZ, GTZ, KfW), and a presentation to the Vulnerability and Adaptation Resources Group (VARG), a coalition of key donors. World Conference on Broadcast Meteorology, Barcelona, Spain, 4-5 June, 2004. A presentation “Disaster Risk Reduction and Early Warning” was given by R Basher.
